Today marked the first day of Lent.

Lent is a time of reflection and self-improvement to become more like Jesus. God sacrificed his only Son to rid us of our sins, and the least we can do is to sacrifice something in our lives to give more time for Him.

My Lenten promise this year, in addition to the physical things I am giving up, is to eradicate judgmental thoughts from my mind as well as allow time for myself to reflect on my day and acknowledge that my thoughts and feelings are just as important as another person’s. I will stop neglecting myself and start allowing more self-care in my life to allow more happiness, self-confidence, and self-acceptance of myself as a person. We are made in the image of God, and I will give myself the respect God knows we all deserve as His children.
